The Small Print: General Fabric Information

The Small Print: General Information About Our Fabrics

Please note that colour deviations may occur between digital representation, printed representation, and physical product samples.

Our fabrics are tested to secure they sustain the high performance required from interior solar protection textiles to control and balance e.g. daylight, glare, heat, privacy, and outlook.

We urge you to consider that most textiles by nature are dimensionally stable only within tolerances.

Further, differences may occur between production batches which will be within tolerances in terms of colour, dimension, and other performance areas, and which will not impact the overall function of the fabric.

Optical Information

Tested according to ISO 7724 Part 1, 2, 3. The values can have a variance of ±5%. The human eye will not conceive this as a difference. Solar values are presented for each product (Rs% – Reflection, Ts% – Transmission, As% – Absorption).

Other descriptive values, including but not limited to, light and energy values are available upon request.

Light Fastness

Tested according to SS ISO 105-B02. Highest value is 8. Please note that natural fibres fade naturally when unbleached.

Shrinkage

Values are valid at normal use and cleaning in accordance with the instructions. Please note that natural fibres shrink depending on climate.

Cleaning

In general, we recommend careful vacuum cleaning and/or gentle wiping with a sponge and a soft detergent. Soaking and rubbing is disadvised. A large number of our fabrics are suitable for use in hygiene spaces and may be disinfected with specific alcohol solvents. Please contact a product expert from Almedahls for advice.

Cutting

Cold cutting of fabrics is recommended.

Welding

A number of our fabrics are tested for welding. For advice on specific fabrics, methods, and machinery, please contact a product expert from Almedahls.

Sustainability

Our products are covered by the Five-Zero-Green sustainability programme.

We are certified according to the environmental management system ISO14001.

Our products are REACH compliant at the minimum. REACH (EC 1907/2006) aims to improve the protection of human health and the environment through the better and earlier identification of the intrinsic properties of chemical substances. This is done by the four processes of REACH, namely the registration, evaluation, authorisation, and restriction of chemicals.

In addition, our products are RoHS compliant (RoHS stands for Restriction of Hazardous Substances).

Technical Performance and Compliance for UK Blind Manufacturers

Technical documentation has become an essential requirement for blind manufacturers, fabricators, architects and specification professionals throughout the UK. As solar shading systems are increasingly used within residential, commercial, healthcare, education and public sector environments, access to reliable product data helps support informed specification decisions.

Modern solar protection fabrics are expected to deliver a balance of daylight management, glare control, privacy, thermal comfort and aesthetic appeal. Performance data relating to light transmission, solar reflection, absorption values and dimensional stability provides confidence that products are suitable for their intended application.

For made-to-measure blind manufacturers, consistency between production batches is particularly important. Controlled manufacturing processes, documented tolerances and quality assurance procedures help ensure that fabric performance remains reliable across projects of varying size and complexity.

Sustainability is also becoming increasingly important within the UK blinds industry. Environmental certifications, responsible manufacturing processes and compliance with international standards allow manufacturers and specifiers to evaluate products against both performance and environmental objectives.

For commercial specification projects, documented fabric characteristics support architects, interior designers, facilities managers and contractors when comparing products, preparing specifications and validating project requirements.

Supporting Better Specification Decisions

Successful blind installations rely on selecting fabrics that meet both technical and aesthetic requirements. Access to accurate product information allows manufacturers and specifiers to compare options objectively and identify the most suitable solution for each project.

Whether supplying roller blinds, vertical blinds, pleated blinds or specialist solar shading systems, comprehensive technical information supports product confidence throughout the supply chain.

As sustainability, compliance and performance standards continue to evolve, well-documented fabric collections help manufacturers and specification professionals meet increasingly demanding customer expectations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is technical fabric information important?

Technical information helps manufacturers, specifiers and installers understand how a fabric is expected to perform in terms of daylight control, solar management, privacy, glare reduction and durability.

What do Rs%, Ts% and As% mean?

These values indicate solar reflection, solar transmission and solar absorption characteristics, helping specifiers evaluate solar performance and daylight control properties.

Why can colour differences occur between samples and finished products?

Minor variations may occur between digital displays, printed materials and physical textile products due to the characteristics of different media and production tolerances.

What is light fastness?

Light fastness measures a fabric's resistance to fading when exposed to light, helping assess long-term appearance and performance.

Why is dimensional stability important for blind fabrics?

Dimensional stability helps ensure fabrics maintain their intended size and appearance during normal use, cleaning and environmental changes.

Are these fabrics suitable for healthcare and hygiene-sensitive environments?

Many fabrics within the collection are suitable for hygiene-sensitive applications and may be cleaned or disinfected in accordance with specific product recommendations.

What sustainability standards are relevant to solar shading fabrics?

Environmental management systems, chemical compliance programmes and responsible manufacturing practices are increasingly important considerations when selecting products.

What does REACH compliance mean?

REACH compliance relates to European regulations governing the safe use, registration and management of chemical substances.

What is RoHS compliance?

RoHS compliance restricts the use of specific hazardous substances within products and supports safer manufacturing practices.

Why do architects and specifiers require documented fabric performance?

Commercial projects increasingly require measurable product data, compliance information and technical documentation to support specification decisions and project approvals.
